Kindergarten - We did a lot of movement during our lesson this week! I wanted to introduce the children to more of the music vocabulary that we will use, so we danced and sang with fast and slow, high and low.
2nd Grade - We usually start class with both a rhythm warm-up and a vocal warm up. We then move to the drums where we practice hot to sit, how to play the different tones on the drums and how to echo rhythm patterns. We played a birthday game in which each child drums the rhythmic pattern of their birthdays.
3rd Grade - After our rhythm and vocal exercises (ask your child about the salami game!) we move to the drums. Every time they come to music they rotate to a different sized drum. I challenged these students with a very hard drumming ensemble piece that requires focused listening. They did a fantastic job!
4th Grade - We are done previewing the 4th grade show "Compose Yourself" and are now in rehearsal mode. This show not only very funny, it is also rich in music history and vocabulary. The students are learning about opera, oratorios, waltzes, minuets and fugues. They're getting a sense of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th Century time periods in music history and they are learning about Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, The Waltz King - Strauss, and many other famous composers.
5th Grade - I love singing with these students! We had an "Aha!" moment in each class when the students made connections to playing instruments in pentatonic last year and singing the major scale this year. Learning about half steps and whole steps and applying that to both instruments and voice is deep, upper level thinking. I am so proud of their musicianship!
I had training this week on our new sound board and our new light board. We are so blessed to have this incredible equipment that will make our children look and sound even better!
