Week of September 2-5

All classes reviewed the melody, lyrics and sign language for "God Bless America".  We have a wonderful tradition of gathering at the flagpole as a school at the start and end of the school year to say the pledge and sing this song.

1st Grade - After doing our singing and rhythm warm-ups, we did a lot of drumming.  We played the rhythms of the days of the week, the months of the year, and played the beat to a poem about a penny.

2nd Grade - We talked about and experienced the difference between the steady beat of music and the rhythm of the words.  Ask your child how to spell rhythm!  We also drummed while reciting some math facts.

3rd Grade - We read some simple and not so simple rhythm patterns and played them on the drums.  These patterns fit along with a song called "We are Making Music".  We also played an improvisation game.

4th Grade - We are rehearsing for the October 22 show called "Summer Camp".  I sent home a letter with information. about this show.  An audition sheet was included on the back.

5th Grade - We spent some time discussing our 5th grade t-shirts.  Together we will design something exciting and unique!  We put together a challenging ensemble on the drums that required all students to listen, look and focus.  They did a great job!
